Every year millions of people set their resolutions. Lose weight, stop smoking, get away from this or that. Just read that line again and see why so many 'resolutions' don't stick. Why would your unconscious mind continue a process that is running away from something?
Why not try moving toward what you like. How about becoming the healthy, vibrant person you truly are inside? How about attracting the relationships that fulfill and empower you? Aren't those goals more inviting?
Truth is, our unconscious minds don't work well with away from goals. As a hypnotherapist, coach and NLP practitioner, I work with clients to build goals that move TOWARD what they want instead of AWAY FROM what they don't want. This isn't just positive thinking, it's proven fact. If I write a hypnotherapy script based on 'away from's', it won't have the results the client desires. In fact, when I see people working with 'away from's', I usually also see the manifestation of quite a bit of stress in the unconscious mind. The unconscious needs something to go to, something to go toward. A future goal instead of staying stuck. And giving the unconscious mind a future goal you feel good and passionate about is even better.
So how do you create your goals for 2004? First, make a list of what you would like to change. Then realize, that is exactly what you are doing, you are making a change. To make that change, you need to decide what you are changing to. Create your list of what you are changing to. For example, instead of, I need to lose 20 lbs, state, I am eating healthier (in whatever that means for you) and I am exercising regularly (again, what that means for you), etc. Then get specific, what are the specific changes you desire?
Once you've made your list for your conscious mind, it's time to let the unconscious in on it. The unconscious mind works with images - pictures we make in our mind. Take a moment and get a visual of the you you desire to be. The person you will be after the changes have been made. Take some time with that inner picture, play with it, make it real for you. Working with these pictures is one way your unconscious mind knows what to go toward.
So now that you have the towards, choose where you will begin. Making changes can be overwhelming if you are only focusing on the end goal. For each of the goals you set, what is the first step? Make a list of the first steps and set those as your goals to begin creating the life you want. As you are completing your first steps, you may wish to reconnect with your initial goal list. Also, make sure to continue working with your inner picture as you are making your changes happen.
Enjoy moving toward your wonderful future. 2004 is going to be a powerful year.
